Bo's Surgery Update 4:30

I just got word from Dr. Sullivan that Bo's surgery went well. As expected, his L4-L5 and L5-L6 discs were herniated. They relieved the pressure and repaired the herniated disc. In addition, the found a large blood clot and removed that as well. It is still unknown if his spinal cord will heal.

There is more. Anyone who has met Bo knows that he is a "labored breather", to put things mildly. This created a concern for the surgeon, especially because of Bo's recent distressed behavior. The solution was to do two more surgeries while he was under. Many french bulldogs have an extended soft palate, and apparently Bo's was long enough to be a concern. That was trimmed. In addition, his larynx sacs were completed inverted, or "flopped out", because of the extended period of time of hyperventilation due the pain he was in. Those were fixed as well.

He is heavily sedated right now and we are not allowed to see him yet. They do not want him to get agitated and begin moving around and/or begin heavily panting again. No news is good news, and for now, we can all rest.
